Submitted to Embassy

We received confirmation today that Ella was submitted to the Embassy on 7/27. At this point the US Embassy will review her file and determine if she meets the US definition of an orphan. If they believe the file contains all the necessary documentation, we will receive their approval and they will give us Embassy dates available to get her visa. If they believe the documentation in the file is not complete, the will request our agency gather additional information.

Based on what our agency has stated, the embassy is requesting additional information on about 60% of the cases. Please pray with us that her file is complete so she may come home soon.

Waiting for Embassy Appointment

We received a copy of Ella's birth certificate and translated adoption decree. We are now waiting for the passport and embassy medical exam. We hope Ella will be submitted to the Embassy on 7/27. Tomorrow, would be great too but that may not be realistic. Our agency is only allowed to submit on Weds.

Please pray she is submitted soon! Once she is submitted to the embassy, we will wait and see if the embassy would like to do an investigation. If they investigate, it will add additional time to the timeline. So at this point we are thinking she will be home sometime between the end of August to the end of September.

Ella Carlyn Hagelin Pictures

We hope you enjoy this brief video of the pictures we have.

Good News

Ella and her file have passed court! According to Ethiopian Law, Ella is officially a Hagelin now. This is the best news I could have received before the holiday weekend.

Next steps:

  • Get a Birth Certificate listing Steve and I as her parents.

  • Get an Ethiopian Passport for her

  • Submit her case to the US Embassy

This process is estimated to take 6-12 weeks. My guess is we will be more around the 12 week period due to the fact the Embassy is working 1/2 staff in July.

Thank you for all the prayers. Please pray that the next part of the process goes smoothly. I will share pictures of Ella with everyone this evening.
